Ravana Falls is one of the most visited waterfalls in Sri Lanka, located along the main road between Ella and Wellawaya. The waterfall is formed by water flowing down a rocky cliff in multiple tiers, especially visible during the wet season when the volume increases. During drier months, the flow reduces, and the rock structure becomes more visible, giving the falls a different look depending on the time of year. The surrounding area is covered with thick vegetation typical of Sri Lanka’s intermediate climate zone.
One of the main reasons for the waterfall’s popularity is its location right next to the road. There is no long hike required, visitors can view the falls directly from the roadside or walk a short distance closer to the base. During periods of strong water flow, some visitors choose to enter shallow areas at the base, but caution is necessary as currents and slippery rocks can be risky.
